Coping with panic attacks | Agoraphobia | Panic disorder

Do you have frequent panic attacks and fear having another one? Are you worried about something bad happening, like having a heart attack or losing control? Are you concerned about being ignored or not getting home if you have a panic attack?

Panic attacks are quite common in the general population. They are characterized by a sudden onset of intense apprehension, fear, or terror accompanied by physical symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, dizziness, palpitations, chest pains, and tingling sensations. The accompanying thoughts often include: 'I'm going to lose control; I am going mad; I am going to die, or I am going to embarrass myself'. Panic attacks are one of the symptoms of built-up stress. They are maintained by a combination of stressful life events, catastrophic misinterpretation of bodily symptoms, and worry about the consequences, as well as scanning your body for symptoms and sensations. Coping with panic attacks can be a daunting experience, but there are strategies to help manage and alleviate their symptoms. Psychological therapy offers effective interventions for managing panic attacks and panic disorder. CBT is a widely researched and proven approach that helps individuals understand and cope with panic symptoms.

Therapy empowers individuals to regain a sense of control over their panic symptoms, reduce the frequency and intensity of attacks, and ultimately improve their quality of life.
